The Civil War and Reconstruction
The Civil War of 1861-1865 was a period of blood shed and brutality. Fueled by the controversy over slavery, the war was fought between the north's Union soldiers and the south's Confederate soldiers. Although slavery was the main source of economic prosperity at the time, the north felt that the institution of slaves was unjust and must be put to an end. They did everything they could to stop the expansion of slavery and eventually end it all. This enraged the south who's economy depended on the slaves field work. As tensions arose, the north and south found themselves in a Civil War, and the Union's victory left the south with the burden of reconstruction. This war would forever change the history of the United States of America.
