Effects of the Reconstruction
The reconstruction created many changes in the United States. African Americans were given a sense of confidence and importance in society. More public schools were being built and more railroads, telegraph lines, bridges, and roads were created. This increased taxes and angered whites in the south. Because slavery was abolished, sharecropping was really the only other option left. The democratic party became dominant in the south and the republican party became dominant in the north.
