The Civil War
The election of 1860 and secession really got the civil war started. The nation was split into pro-slavery supporters and antislavery supporters. Once the south began its secession from the union the war broke out. The north wanted to keep the union together and abolish slavery, whereas the south just wanted to be left alone and keep slavery. Several battles took place and many places in the U.S. were destroyed.
